Handmade with Love: Reflections on the Holiday Gift-Making Workshop at Self-Heal School

 This workshop with John and Jane was a true gift in itself—fun, accessible, and welcoming to participants of all experience levels, from seasoned herbalists to those exploring herbs for the very first time. Over the course of the day, we learned to craft herbal bath salts, infused oils, a beauty balm, wreaths made with plants lovingly harvested from a classmate’s garden, and edible and drinkable treats like holiday punch and carob fudge. Each activity was accompanied by interactive demonstrations, plenty of opportunities to ask questions, and thoughtful tips for success. Jane and John shared stories, sourcing ideas, and practical advice, making every creation feel inviting and achievable. 

Throughout the day, we were treated to tea, cake, and a delicious vegetarian lunch that included items we learned to make ourselves. At the end, participants received a comprehensive packet filled with recipes for everything we created in the workshop, additional gift ideas, and a list of helpful resources for further exploration. 

This wasn’t just a class—it was a full, immersive experience of creating, learning, and connecting with plants and new friends. I left feeling inspired, nourished, and ready to craft thoughtful herbal gifts for loved ones for years to come!
